Reading Day Celebration – 2016
In remembrance of Shri. P.N.
Panicker, the reading day 2016 was formally celebrated jointly by the Department of
Library and Information Science and Fr. Moses Library, Rajagiri College of
Social Sciences. The event was inaugurated by Shri. Pramod Raman, the News Co-ordinator, TV Anchor
and Writer . In the inaugural speech, he spoke on the
importance of reading and electronic media as two major aspects of knowledge.
He opines that there are no substitutes for replacing the pleasure of reading.
Reading should not be a forced activity. Moreover it is important to realize it
as a human rights. He added that in reality, it can act as a healing force. Dr. Mary Venus Joseph,
Dean and Administrator presided over the ceremony.Shri. Francis A.J., Librarian, Sr. Rekha where the other speakers. The highlight of the
programme was the debate titled “Social Media and Change in Reading among Youth” lead by Mr. Joshy
Varghese, the DDU-GKY mobilization head. The others attractions of the
programme were public speaking and poetry recitation.
